P.S. – Race reports from the Rock n Roll San Antonio Half Marathon & The 19th Annual Turkey Trot of Beaumont TX will be posted (somewhat) soon. I am at the end of my semester at the university & my time is full at the moment with work, school, racing, running….. just life. HaHaHa

My next half marathon....

.... is this coming weekend in San Antonio, TX. The Rock n Roll Marathon & 1/2. Like my first event I ran in I will be doing this one with stitches. Again, it was unavoidable. Minor surgery on Wed. that had to be done then or wait 5 weeks. Figured may as well get it done & over. Been resting at home. Will make the drive to San Antonio on Sat. and stay though Monday. I will be at the historic Menger Hotel which is supposedly haunted. Will see. Its not my usual hotel stop when in town but wanted to branch out a bit and try something a little different.

For this event I will be running (probably walking mostly due to recent events) for a fellow racer. A young motorcycle racer from Texas had a horrible accident at a race in Virginia. His name is Zac Chapman. While I do not know him personally it is always difficult to hear about any racer rather it be NHRA Drag Racing, motorcycles, off-road, running, etc. becomes injured. He is a friend of a friend and young Zac is fighting for his life. He is cared for by many. It is my honor to have been asked to wear one of his Get Well Zac Attack shirts during this half marathon event. To find out more on Zac, keep updated on his condition, or make a donation to help cover his medical costs please visit then New River Fellowship Church web site. Get well soon Zac.

The last days of October.....

The last days of October are upon us and as many people know October is one of my favorite months for a few reasons..... personal.... professional.... but mostly just because of Halloween. With that said, this last bit of October will be busy for me. Here is a short rundown:

2009-10-24 - A great friend of mine if getting married. I am very happy for them and wish them many years of happiness!

2009-10-24 - My niece is entering her first little contest, a Halloween costume contest at the Kemah Boardwalk in Kemah, Texas.

2009-10-25 - NASCAR Cup race in Martinsville, Virginia which is the area that my mothers side of the family lives in. Wish was there, probably will catch some of it on TV. Love the great state of Virginia..... almost as much as Texas. Almost.

2009-10-28 - Meeting a Lamar University I have to go to, those are always “fun”.... not really though.

2009-10-29 - Have to make a quick trip to Houston, Texas to pickup my packet for the Monster Mash 5K/10K run.

2009-10-30 - One of my favorite Texas bands, The Toadies, will be playing a poolside concert at the L'Auberge du Lac Casino. Check out this video of "Possum Kingdom" live.

2009-10-31 - Monster Mash 5K/10K run at Sam Houston Race Park in Houston, Texas early in the morning. Then Halloween.... my FAVORITE holiday..... with friends and family.

In there somewhere I will work in some runs and catch up on some of my assignments for school/college/Lamar University/whatever you want to call it. If I would have done the two-year thing I would have been done by now but my long term goal has always been a four year degree and my fantasy is a Masters. I seriously doubt I can ever make it that far but time will tell. Even with all the mess that has gone on there (sometimes I wonder how some of the people working there got to be in their positions) I am still thankful that I have the chance now to be in school/college since I never had the chance to back when most people did/do.

Oh, and by the way.... I will be “Waldo” from “Where’s Waldo?” in the Monster Mash Run so I will have links to the site & pics after the run.... to see if you can find me. HaHaHa.

LIVESTRONG - At the Lance Armstrong Foundation, we inspire and empower people affected by cancer. We believe that unity is strength, knowledge is power and attitude is everything. Read our Manifesto. We provide the practical information and tools people with cancer need to live life on th
eir own terms. We take aim at the gaps between what is known and what is done to prevent suffering and death due to cancer. We unite people to fight cancer and pursue an agenda focused on:

Founded in 1997 by cancer survivor and champion cyclist Lance Armstrong, the LAF is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Austin, Texas.

OAR - The Organization for Autism Research (OAR) was created in December 2001–the product of the shared vision and unique life experiences of OAR’s seven founders. Led by these parents and grandparents of children and adults on the autism spectrum, OAR set out to use applied science to answer questions that parents, families, individuals with autism, teachers and caregivers confront daily. No other autism organization has this singular focus.

JEGS Foundation - The "Our personal experiences with cancer drove us to assist building awareness of the many faces of cancer and help to generate dollars through race earnings to advance cancer research. Thus, the motto 'Racing for Cancer Research'." The Coughlin family features the JEGS Racing for Cancer Research ribbon on all race cars and uniforms to raise awareness. The ribbon may be a simple symbol, but it displays a meaningful sentiment. In 2005, in honor of Jeg Coughlin Sr., the "Jeg Coughlin Chair in Cancer Research" was also established to support internationally-eminent scholar who researches and develops therapies in the field of childhood cancer.

About Me

Howdy. My name is Sebastian Lopez Jr. I am one of those guys that has done a little bit of everything in the first 32 years of my life. I was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas USA which is about an hour & quarter from Houston, Texas. I have some family here and a great deal of family in the state of Virginia. I love it up there, in VA. I come from mixed parents, I am half Hispanic and half White. Despite my name I cannot speak very much Spanish at all just the very basic words that usually get me in trouble when I say some of them. HaHaHa.

I have never been married but would like to one day. Nevertheless I've had my heart stolen and broken a few times. No fun and after each time it does get a little harder to let your guard down but in the end the risk is worth it. "All you need is love...." as they say. Family is important to me, I like to spoil my niece and will spoil my soon-to-be-here nephew also. I am working on finishing my college degree, something that I wish I could have done many years ago if it was possible for me to do so back then right out of high school, and work full time. Its a challenge at the moment but hopefully will be worth it in the end.

I love photography and wish I was better at it, you can always find me with a camera of some sorts on or close to me. I drive race cars, always have and probably always will since it has always been a huge part of my life, my little NHRA Drag Racing team is called Lopez Racing. I love music and the water even though I cannot play any instrument or swim. I do play video games on occasion. I like to go skydiving when have the chance, its a great rush. Love roller coasters because some of the G-Forces and sense of speed on a few of them are close to the feelings you have when you are racing/driving fast. I like to travel and see/visit new & old places, I'm a bit of a history buff. And now..... I run.... long distances..... for fun.

Running is new to me as far as the events/races are concerned. A friend got me interested in it when she ran a half marathon. For me it combines a few of my favorite things. Travel.... I get to see/visit places. Photography.... I am usually snapping pics. Racing..... even though I will never be the best at this its still enjoyable being part of an organized event. But running also gives me a little time each day to get away from stress while getting myself into a little bit better shape. I've never been overweight or out of shape physically but when I ran my first half marathon (which I will post about later on) I realized I could be in a lot better shape. Even so, crossing the finish line despite the fatigue and pain was one of the greatest feeling of accomplishment I have ever had. Getting a couple of medals afterwards was cool too.

One of the things I had not expected from running was meeting new and interesting people I would not have normally met. Yes, I meet people at work and when I am at the racetracks racing my cars..... but they are different "types" of people and under different "circumstances" with competition strictly on their minds at the time and wanting to beat you. Have met a few great friends in drag racing though. While somewhat similar at the running events I have been to in a couple ways, 99.9% of the people I have met have been very friendly and helpful 100% of the time.... even cheer each other on (even complete strangers like me) despite being on different levels and from different areas. I've met a few people from Kenya, the UK, Canada, Mexico and several states. That has been very cool, to me, who comes from a relatively small Texas town.

You can find me on Facebook usually by the email of
slj@lopezracing.com since it is easy for me to check via my phone. You can also visit our main racing page at www.LopezRacing.com out there on the web.

With all that said I will leave you with one of my current favorite quotes from race car driver Tony Stewart......

'When I hear the words "You can't", I just say to myself "Watch me."'

I am now proudly a member of Team LIVESTRONG - Disney 2010

I am now proudly a member of Team LIVESTRONG - Disney 2010. This event will be held in Walt Disney World on January 9, 2010 so we have until then to reach that fundraising goal.

I will run all 13.1 miles proudly wearing the LIVESTRONG colors for each and every one of you, your family, your friends. I ask that you please take a few mins and check out the link above. Please donate what you can when you can if you can. We all know the story of Lance Armstrong and his journey. But cancer touches all of us at some point in our lifetime rather it be though family or friends. For me it has been both. I lost a friend to cancer a few years ago and over the years I have lost a couple of family members.

For this event, since it means to much to me, I set my charity fundraising goal higher then normal for the charity I am running for. I want to do my part and raise $2,000 (or more) for the Lance Armstrong Foundation / LIVESTRONG. I believe that it can be done, but only with your help and generosity. Any amount will help, large or small. Repost this if you can/will to help spread the word to your friends and family. Please make sure to leave your name so I may send you a personal Thank You when/if you donate. I thank you very much all for your support and help.

Best wishes,
=Sebastian Lopez Jr.

My first post.....

.... not sure what to say.

This is a test.... this is only a test..... if this was a real post, there would be something relevant written here followed by ramblings of this or that subject.

Thank you for your patience.
